Governance

Tree Tops is a Section 21 Co (An Association not for Gain) that has PBO status with SARS. While fulfilling the requirements of the Companies Act of 1973 , Tree Tops has a democratic governance structure, which ensures input from all relevant ‘ stakeholders’ and provides continuity of leadership. The Board of Directors/Governing Body is made up of a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 14 members, and further members can be co-opted for their input.


The financials of the school are audited annually and the full audited statements can be perused by any Member of the Tree Tops' Association who is in good standing. Details of the income and expenditure statements are circulated at the AGM.

· The Prinicipal
· A minimum of 5 parents elected at the AGM.
· 2 educators (elected by their colleagues)
· A Treasurer (the Financial Secretary of the School, appointed by the Board)

The Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected by the Board and, whereas parent and educator members serve 2 year terms, these office bearers serve 5 year terms. This helps to ensure continuity with regard to longer term development and institutional memory.

Board members convene a number of sub-committees, eg: Finance, Strategic Planning, Human Resources, Fund-Raising, Maintenance, Security and Risks, etc to which members may be co-opted.

The Board meets once a month and, in addition to normal agenda items, members of the parent community can table additional items for consideration.
